Chris and I recently visited Port Regis to find out how the improvements to our teenage accommodation are progressing and to discuss the arrangements for all age groups.

Lucky teenagers will be getting 3 new recreation areas: a comfy cinema room, a games room with table tennis, table football etc, and a quiet room.

We walked around all the bedrooms that will be used by 11 – 14 year old boys. We will be arranging furniture to try to give everyone their own space and privacy. We’ll be turning the big ‘Old Assembly Hall’ into a boys’ recreation area with a Playstation / Wii corner. There will be an active area with table tennis and air hockey and a comfy seating area around a real fire for when the evenings turn chilly.

11 – 14 girls will be in Grosvenor as usual. We’ve asked for fruit in the evening as well as biscuits and will be arranging a variety of things to do like make up evenings, smoothie evenings and friendship bracelet evenings. Eight lucky older girls will have their own section of The Mansion with their own kitchenette and a lovely new bathroom with rainfall shower. A member of staff will be sleeping in the same area and the aim is to give these older girls some independence while knowing there is someone there if they need any help.

We have restructured weekends for everyone aged 11 – 17. On one of the days a late Brunch will be followed by an extended shopping trip. The additional time will allow travel to interesting destinations like Bath, Bristol and Southampton. The other day will be a full-day excursion with a more fun / cultural focus to places like Stonehenge, Studland Beach, Splashdown water park and Thorpe Park.

For the 7 – 10 year olds we are introducing ‘Science with a Bang’ to the programme, making traffic lights, volcanoes and many wonderful smells under the watchful eye of a fully qualified primary science teacher.
Lots for everyone, then!
